Our Craft Space

makers in residence

A permanent area of the hotel, dedicated to all things craft.

It’s not just art we love here at Bankside, we are into everything that is creative and more importantly, how it is made. True to our art school values, we have joined forces with Contemporary Collective, to bring you an ever-changing programme of makers in residence.

Our Makers In Residence

Our curators Contemporary Collective champion up-and-coming creatives, covering a wide range of disciplines including: design, painting, sculpture, film, drawing, printmaking, installation, new media and photography. During their stay, guests will be able to watch artists practice their creative expertise and so be taken on an informative and artistic journey.

Our Current Maker in Residence - Ernesto Romano

Ernesto's unique style involves the use of medical records like X-rays or MRIs to make his art. The use of X-rays is a simple way to explore the very essence of being human, deprived of any feature or embellishment that may come with society or status. You can see Ernesto's in action during July 2019, in our Makers Space situated on the ground floor.

Michael Wallner

Michael Wallner's latest work celebrates the beauty of the city through the shapes and outlines that define its landmarks and character. Michael was in residency from May-June 2019.

Victoria Heald is a London-based artist specialising in painting figurative and animal works on gold. Victoria spent two months working from our space from March-April 2019.

Luke Walker

Luke Walker was our inaugural maker, he is an urban landscape painter who believes that art should raise awareness about environment issues. Luke spent his residency exploring the local Bankside area, producing many works of the local landscape and architecture.
